The Lost Son Returns as the Duke Episode 1 begins in a sorrowful way. A war is ravaging the country and young Arthur is in hiding with his mother and sister. To celebrate his father's birthday, Arthur asks to get a meal for the family and his mother gives him the last money she has to buy the chicken. She also gives him and his sister matching necklaces. But on the way back, Arthur is forcefully grabbed by soliders to take him to the war, despite the fact that he is too young to fight.
